Hello this is Tom from every step
calculus dot com wanna show you how my programs work with the product rule
for Calc 1 and how easy it is,
how sure it is, and let’s get started
have to put index eight into the entry line here to get to my menu which you’re
instructed to do in my instructions
press ENTER here we’re already at the product rule
you see quadratic formula quotient rule all kinds of things you can choose from my
menu
you go up and down my menu whatever with the cursor
here we’re going to choose product rule product rule
any any two functions separated by a times sign
is the product rule for differentiation
and if it had a division sign in there you’d be doing the quotient rule
so you have to know some things about calculus and have to remember
certain things and that’s wonderful so keep that in mind is very important you
write all this down on your paper
you don’t write the formula, the word formula, the product rule you write
these
down on your paper to remind you as you would during a test or whatever
homework
what you’re doing and
then we’re going to enter our function you have to press alpha before you enter
anything into my entry lines here in my programs you
pressed alpha, we’re going to put the quote here you have to do an example of what it is,
it has to be in parentheses
with the times sign in between first parentheses we’re going to put the function in
of this test problem, this is an actual test problem from some person who didn’t get
do very well on the test he would have gotten certainly five points on this
problem if he did it correct
and points are essential being that
calculus testers score on partial credit and the class curve
so we put the left parenthesis
in there and we put 3 times
X minus
2, close off the parenthesis, put the times sign in there
put the left parenthesis in the next function g of x, which is
zero
times x
minus X
squared plus 1
close off the parentheses I always show you what you’ve entered
make sure you entered it correct, if you didn’t you can change it
I say it’s okay
f(x) 3x -2 g(x) is 5x cubed minus
x squared plus one write this on your paper and
you’re working out the formula just like this
exactly like that all this
on your paper exactly but the answer you can if you want
here’s exact answer pretty neat huh? every step

This is a video on product rule I’m going to do a little harder calculations
for you uhm to get started
we’re going to enter second alpha and enter the letters i n d e x
and then alpha to enter the eight and the open and closed parenthesis
press enter and you’re into my menu uhm we’re going to go down here
scroll down to product rule
press enter I give you the formula there
which you mark down on your paper everything you see you mark down
never hurts you’re going to get partial credit
for everything so keep marking stuff on your paper
uhm we have to enter it with the parenthesis like this
for the product rule so I’m going to have to go alplha
you have to add ahh press alpha before
you do anything in my entry lines here and we’ll do the left parenthesis
and we’ll put in three times x
this is right off a test here now two and the left parenthesis for the other
function five times x cubed minus x squared plus one
close off the parenthesis and press enter
I’ve showed you what you’ve entered you can change it if you want
I say it’s ok and we start into the formula here
mark all of this down on your paper answer is sixty x cubed minus thirty nine
x squared plus four x plus three

Product Rule & Tangent on the TI-89: Raw Transcript

Ok I’m going to do in this video a product rule
with regards to tangent let’s get started
uhm ok to get to my menu you have to press second
alpha put the letters i n d e x in there
press alpha and put the eight and the open and closed parenthesis
press enter and you are into my menu we scroll up or down to where ever you want
but right now I want to get to product rule so I’m going to scroll up to product rule
I show you the formula make sure you write everything down
on your paper just like you see it here you get extra credit
and you get certain partial credit for everything so
ahh you have to press alpha before you enter anything into
my menu lines here so let’s put
alpha x squared times the gold key ya know tangent let’s say two times x
press enter I always show you what you’ve entered
so you can check it if you want and change it if you want
but I say it’s ok and we’re into the menu
notice it converts tangent to the identity and this is always fun to
put this down on your test and get a hundred percent on it
or homework ahh pretty neat huh

Ok this is the product rule with respect to cosign and sign which I’m going to show you and we get started to get to my menu you have to press second alpha and enter the letters i n d e x and then press alpha again to put the eight and the open and closed parenthesis press enter and you are into my menu you scroll up or where ever you want but I want to dot product rule right now so were going to do that one I give you the formula write all this stuff down on your paper or test whatever it’s always good to write use all parenthesis lot of parenthesis and you have to press alpha before you enter anything in my entry lines here and you have to enter it in this form here parenthesis with a times sign and parenthesis so were going to press alpha left parenthesis and put a function in here press the gold key for cosign five time x close off the parenthesis times sign add the other parenthesis and put gold key sign five times x cubed and then press enter. I always show you what you’ve entered so you can change it if you want give you the option there on the next screen. I say it’s ok. I show you what f of x is and g of x is and then you apply it to the formula and keep working the problem write down everything you see on your paper and you get a hundred percent on this problem and here’s the answer five x squared cosign of five x times cosign of five x and then minus five sign of five x sign of five see you write this down hundred percent on your paper. I’m going to do a video on a product rule with ya know pretty hard one variable function to get started we’ll press second alpha to put the i n d e x in here in my menu and then we’ll press alpha and get put in the eight and the open and closed parenthesis press enter and you are into the menu. I’m at the product rule here’ but you can see number of many many things in calculus that will help you pass calculus and learning calculus if you want to go that far we’re going to do product rule right now. I show you the formula taking f prime of f of x function times g of x and then f of x time g prime of x and we’ll enter our function you have to press alpha before you put anything in my entry lines here we’re going to put it in this form here parenthesis with a times sign in between. So we press alpha put the left parentheses in and put three times x minus two close off the parentheses put the times sign and let’s go five times x cubed minus x squared plus one now you notice that anytime you have you see a any function in a test or on homework where you have two functions multiplied together you use the product rule if there was a division sign here you’d be using the quotient rule ah be hip to that and i always show you what you’ve entered so you can change it if you’ve made a mistake but that’s what we want and I show you where f what f of x is your choice for that is and of course the choice for g of x and we work the formula and here’s the answer here all of these are added together and here’s your answer pretty neat huh? all my programs are step by step like this show you exactly how to do it so wouldn’t take you long to learn it if if you knew it like this. so i’m going to demonstrate the uh… product rule on the titanium written you know with regard to my program start program a calculator uh… and to we need to get to the home screen here and you type index that i’m gonna clear this out and reapply it so they can show you how to do that you go second alpha get that little dark mark in there to show you you’re gonna put letters in the calculator i_n_d_e x and then alpha again to switch the numbers in parentheses and your into my programs there’s a menu of many many things depending on what i want to put in there but you know product rule like this one chain rule, quotient rule, quotient um difference quotient, limits trig integrals, derivatives log of base a or you know natural log derivatives, derivatives of thosebut anyways, we’re going to go team also goes straight up and then you can scroll down to go here’s velocity and stuff that you would need in calculus, um a lot of it were going to do the quotient rule in the next video but anyways were going to do the product rule now you can see that I’ve highlighted that, while that’s loading the formula for the product rule is of course h of x because you’re doing two functions f of x and g of x h prime of x is this uh… formula here prime of x g event epa vexed times g prime objectives the part of it for the and then were going to enter in the parentheses like this country an example so we have to go alpha and then enter the first parentheses and then you can enter whatever let’s do 5 times x squared plus six closed parentheses without the prince of sleaze which shows you what you’d entered the program you write that down in your paper dash if you think you want it if it’s okay if you like if you made a mistake and go back and change it whatever so saying it’s ok so each prime although it had to be good at wildness times the either function plus the other function times riveted the other functions of that so you write that on your paper ten x etcetera etcetera we come to the three h primal inferences that explicitly plus the derivatives at this when you add it up or multiply it up at forty-five expert ninety extra eighteen and that’s the product rule opt regarding my programs check them out of my website at least of calculus dot com

 Tommy,     Great talking with you last night. I already liked you for developing this “most excellent program” but after our conversation I concluded you to be a great guy. I’ve been playing with this program most of the night, took in a few “z’s” and am back for more. This program really is superb. I did, however, notice that for some unknown reason when I attempt to do Relative Extrema’s and Trajectories that both programs came up as “Program not Found”. I’m not sure if I will be encountering the Trajectory stuff in this semester of Calculus but I do have a test this Thursday that includes Relative Extrema. Any suggestion, oh Master of this great creation?! I’m going to be gone most the day but should be home late afternoon if you got time to call. Same number (843-xxx-xxxx). That’s Myrtle Beach, 3 hours ahead of you and more golf courses than you can shake a stick at. Thanks    -Joe
