Derivative of lnx | Natural Log on TI-89 | Every Step Calculus Video
Raw Transcript
This is a video from EveryStepCalculus.com demonstrating how my programs work on a TI-89 Titanium calculator and other calculators in the TI system for physics and calculus problems. This is an example of finding the derivative of natural log in my calculus programs and let’s get started in my programs you have to push second alpha to put in the letters i n d e x and then press alpha to put the eight and the open closed parenthesis and press enter and you’re into my menu you’ll scroll down to log of x derivatives and you want to differentiate it so you choose that you can integrate it or solve for x also and we’re going to enter a function here you have to press alpha before you enter anything into my entry lines here So we press alpha. I’m going to press second and then log and let’s put in ah six times x squared plus seven. I always show you what you’ve entered so you can change it in case you made a mistake. I say it’s ok and we’re finding the derivative
of log of six x squared plus seven the formula is u prime over u u being what’s inside the parenthesis here
here is u here six x squared plus seven the derivative the derivative of that excuse me is twelve x and u prime over u so here’s the answer twelve x divided by six x squared plus seven ahh pretty easy if you know the formula and, but my programs show it step by step easily like this. Pretty neat, huh? EveryStepCalculus.com

Derivative of lnx | ln(cos(5x)) on TI-89 | Every Step Calculus Video
Raw Transcript
This is a video from everystepcalculus.com demonstrating how my programs work on a TI-89 Titanium calculator and other calculators in the TI system for calculus and physics problems ok the derivative of log of x and let’s get started to enter my menu you have to push second alpha and then put i n d e x in here and then press alpha to put the eight and the open closed parenthesis and press enter and you’re into my menu. I’ve already scrolled down to log of x it’s all alphabetical. I’m going to press enter you want to differentiate it and we’re going to enter you have to press alpha before you enter anything in these entry lines of my programs. So I’m going to press alpha I’m gonna put log and we wanna put this time cosine of five times x close off the parenthesis twice there. I always show you what you’ve entered so you can change it in case you made a mistake. I say it’s ok and you notice here’s the formula u prime over u u is what’s ever inside the parenthesis of the log natural log and so we have the cosine of five x the derivative of cosine of five x is minus five sine of five x and then u prime over u which turns out to be sine over cosine which is really tangent so the answer is minus five times tangent of five x pretty neat huh

Press enter and you’re into my menu I’ve already scrolled down to log of x natural log of x these are all alphabetical and we’re going to press enter and we’re going to differentiate log of x ahh you have to press alpha before you push put anything into these entry lines of my programs. So you have to remember that and this is a tricky ahh supposedly simple problem that I’ve seen on tests so. Let’s do it. I’m going to press alpha. I’m going to press second to get to the log and then the’ve got second again to put the log in there and then we’re going to put five times x and double parenthesis of course I always show you what I’ve entered what you’ve entered so you can change it if you want. I say it’s ok you’ll notice the formula you prime of u u is always in the parenthesis here in this case log of five x and u prime is one over x and so your answer is one divided by x times log of five time x. Pretty neat, huh? EveryStepCalculus.com, go to my programs buy my programs and enjoy passing calculus.

Average Rate of Change Calculus Video | Step by Step on the TI-89
Raw Transcript
This is a video from everystepcalculus.com demonstrating how my programs work on a TI-89 Titanium calculator and other calculators in the TI system for physics and calculus problems. This is a problem on average rate of change in calculus a problem that comes up in tests and professors talking about it. So let’s get started in my programs you have to push second alpha to put in the letters i n d e x and then press alph to put the eight and the open and closed parenthesis. press enter and you’re into my menu the first one is average rate of change because it’s got the a in it alphabetically we’re going to scroll to that press enter. This is a problem that might be on a test I give you some sort of definition average rate of change the amount of change in one item divided by the corresponding amount of change in another we’re gonna enter the function we’ll enter the one up here a little more elaborate let’s go. You have to press alpha before you enter anything in my entry lines here let’s go three times x squared plus six times x minus sixteen I always show you what you’ve entered so you can change it in case you made a mistake I say it’s ok and you have to have a range so we’re gonna give the range of a or b lower range, let’s go alpha eight and the upper range. Let’s go alpha eleven again I show you what you’ve entered here’s the formula for it f of x sub two minus f of x sub one divided by x two minus x one I’ve put the variables in there for you so you write this on your paper this is what you’d write on your test paper or homework right away, so you don’t think about it do what ever comes up on these screens notice I’m substituting eleven for all the x’s in this function that comes to four thirteen eleven the upper range here’s the lower range eight substituting eight for every thing you write this all on your paper here comes the answers. Now we plug it into the formula and the average rate of change is sixty three what does this mean this is the slope of a line sixty three over one rise over run you go up sixty three points on the y axis go over one on the x axis draw a line from that through the origin of the graph and that’s what you found the slope of a line. Congratulations. Pretty neat huh? everystepcalculus.com go to my site. Buy my programs and pass calculus.
Arc Length Calculus Video | y=sin(x) | Simpson’s Rule on the TI89
Raw Transcript
This is a video from everystepcalculus.com demonstrating how my programs work on a TI-89, Titanium calculator and other calculators in the TI system for physics and calculus problems so we’re going to do the arc length with regards to sine or cosine and ahh first of all I’m gonna do on the calculator and show you on the calculator how this works you can do arc length here you’ll notice that when you press f three function you come up with that menu you press eight and it’ll go to arc length we’re going to put in sin of x for our function and then a comma with regard to x and then a comma with regard to the ah range of zero and pi you notice it’s busy here that means it’s thinking and the takes a while hard for the calculator to do evidently and here’s the answer three point eight two units so now let’s uhm get started on my programs your going to have to put second alpha to put the letters i n d e x in here. Then press alpha again to put nine and the open and closed parenthesispress enter and we’re into my menu we’re gonna do six which is arc length of a function of f of x which which is this which sine is and we’re gonna enter the function gonna press alpha you have to push alpha before you do anything in the entry lines here enter anything in there so alplha we’re gonna put sine of x I always ask you if it’s ok ahh case you made a mistake and so here’s the arc length formula you’ll notice you’re doing the derivative squared here and the regular function is the original function is sin of x we’re gonna enter our range here over the range of alpha zero and alpha pi I again ask you if it’s ok and then we do the derivative you write this stuff all on your paper as you see itand here’s the derivative of sine of x squared over that range here’s the simpson’s rule which you have to write on your paper I don’t think this problem would ever be on a test it’s too difficult might bemight be in your homework here’s the reality of this of that formula this took me two days to figure this out probably took simpson two years without calcuators and we’re gonna do six intervals let’s take six intervals of that change of x is equal to b minus a divided by the number of itinerations that equals point five two four and that divided by three which is simpson’s rule is point one seventy five this is the change of x and you do each one of these individually it starts with zero etcetera you keep adding this in your paper and the answer is three point eight units as you sum up all these.
